Years 1 and 2 Maths Tuition:
KS1: We understand that getting the basics right at this level is fundamental to success later on in your children’s school life. Children are encouraged and supported at this level to use a range of mathematical equipment which really helps bring learning to life. There has been a lot of research in this field. We specialise in cultivating a love of maths in your children from a young age by learning through:
– Numicon; an example of it is in this video made by Kin Learning (all rights go to the respective owners),
– Lego
– Play-Doh
which helps remove the often abstract concept of numbers, fractions or shape and space (Geometry). We also use a combination of ICT in the centre which gives immediate and personalised feedback. We build self-esteem and a love for the subject, which helps children REALLY UNDERSTAND the basics so that not only will they be able to pass their KS1 Maths SATs but they’ll also enjoy doing it.
Whilst every child’s learning needs are different, and attention will be tailored to the areas which require support.
We offer tuition in:
- Number and place value
- Measurement
- Fractions
- Geometry
- Reasoning and problem solving
- KS1 SATs
Years 3,4,5 and 6 Maths Tuition
KS2: Whilst the temptation may be to practice SATS paper after SATS paper, here at FOCUS TUITION we want to give you the best value for money and use of time. We will support your child through the exam process, however we also aim to ensure that your child has a deeper understanding of the key concepts. To do this we use maths equipment, (see link to numicon) ICT and personalised instruction from qualified teachers. Home learning is used to help build on and support work covered in sessions.

KS3, KS4, GCSE preparation:
Many students struggle with Maths, at Focus tuition we have teachers who can explain concepts at a pace which suits our students. We understand the importance of getting the basics right and have ensured that all our teachers are knowledgeable about the subject, but most importantly know how to explain it! Having a good grasp of maths is invaluable in the world of employment today. Our students make progress by having a solid foundation, where learning is individualised, and students are supported to reach their full potential.
Our Teachers know how to break down difficult concepts, giving step-by-step guidance; ensuring students become confident in their own ability and can develop Mathematical fluency, solve problems and apply prior knowledge to mathematical reasoning.
At secondary level, students are expected to develop mathematical fluency, reason and apply their knowledge to solve problems. Tutoring towards GCSE can help with study skills, providing a link between home and school in a supportive environment. Tutoring can change the way your child thinks of themselves as a mathematician.
