More Tips!

Following our blog post last week, and discussion among our tutors, we found that we have even more tips that we want to share with you, for making the most out of private tuition. So whether your child needs help with acing their SATs, or you’re a student yourself, looking for help with GCSEs and A levels check out our advice for getting the most out of your tutor, and remember we’re always here to chat, so if you have any questions about tuition feel free to contact us and get your free assessment!

Starting tuition early in the year is very important, because it gives you and the tutor plenty of time to cover all of the material from your specification at the right pace for you. Often, students also have mock examinations in the winter term, which we can also help you with. In recent years, this has proved to be particularly important, with exams being cancelled due to COVID and mock examination results being used. This will also give you plenty of time to get to know your tutor and  develop a strong rapport with them. This will also allow them to tailor the tuition to your learning style throughout the year and this will benefit you significantly when it comes to exams.

Make sure you ask questions and actively participate, this will not only help you to improve your knowledge and understanding but also help your tutor to understand where you are struggling and plan their lessons around that, spending longer on topics that you struggle with and developing your exam technique. You can also ask your tutor if there are other students that you can talk with about problems or group sessions that you can join. See our blog post on group tuition for more information.

Do the homework that your tutor gives you and come back to the following lesson with questions. Even if you managed to do all of the homework, highlight to your tutor which parts you found harder, and you can even ask them for more challenging work if you think they are not pushing you hard enough. Also, let your tutor know what you are doing in school, this helps them to tailor the work to your assessments and the learning plan that your teacher is following.

Finally, do plenty of exam questions and revision! This can be work that your tutor has set you, but if you really try to go above and beyond then this will allow your tutor to help you even more! Contact us if you have any other questions and we look forward to hearing from you!
