Over the summer period, with very little aid from schools and with parents still working full-time, students are not given resources to ensure that their learning continues. This causes many parents to worry that their children are not exercising their minds, but parents simply don’t have the time to prepare resources and develop an in-depth understanding of the ever-changing curriculum; leaving both parents and students feeling overwhelmed and stressed. Private tuition can offer a solution though. With dedicated teachers, who have spent years developing their knowledge of the curriculum and a passion for their chosen subject speciality your child is in safe hands. We have developed a suite of carefully crafted educational resources and a vibrant learning environment where your child can thrive.
This has issue has been identified from as early as the 1900s and continues to be a problem today, with 1 in 5 parents saying that their child is less engaged by the time they return to school in September, and 50% of pupils say they are not looking forward to resuming their learning.
Charlotte Gater, Head of Curriculum at Explore Learning said: ‘While it can seem a little daunting at first, it’s very important for parents to actively encourage their children to keep learning to avoid the negative impact it can have on their return to school in September’. This could include a small amount of reading, writing and maths practice every day, or organising opportunities for them to explore their interests such as art and sports. Our aim, as a tuition centre, to help parents to bear this burden, by providing the teaching and resources that their children need to keep them happy and focused over the summer.
Though widely debated, the phenomenon of summer learning loss has been documented in studies for the last 60 years, with recent research suggesting that students loss an average of month’s worth of knowledge over the summer period. As students get older, this becomes a greater problem, particularly in reading and maths, with 20-50% of skills being lost over the summer months. These studies also show that summer, for students, is a particularly variable time for learning, with many students struggling to focus without the structure that the school day brings them. By introducing your child to regular private tuition you can help them to gain some of that stability back, which will improve their behaviour whilst developing their knowledge in key subjects. There are many things that you can do to help your child too – with trips to museums, encouraging hobbies, such as reading and writing and encouraging them to get engaged in extracurricular activities. Combining this with weekly classes will ensure that your child is able to settle back in quickly once September rolls around again.
